The first question that many students or community members have when they hear about DECA is "What does DECA mean?" In the past, DECA stood for Distributive Education Clubs of America but has recently dropped the name and just goes by its acronym. DECA is a worldwide organization that promotes student involvement in leadership opportunities ranging in the areas of Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Hospitality, Sales, and Service. Basically, anything that has to do with working in a future career!
For our local chapter, Breckenridge students are able to participate in activities that help promote leadership, volunteerism, and work experience at the school store. For the District and State level, students are able to compete for the opportunity to go to State competitions held in Minneapolis each spring. At the International Level, students are able to compete against students globally at the ICDC Competition which rotates between venues located in Orlando, Nashville, Atlanta, and Anaheim. Students who wish to learn more about business while competing against other students and getting real world scenarios of what it is like to work in business are highly encouraged to participate!
In addition to all of the hard work that students put in, there are a lot of fun opportunities that the students get to participate in as well. Pictured below are some of the various activities that Breckenridge DECA members had the chance to attend!
