After both reading "The Birds" by Daphne du Maurier and viewing The Birds film by Alfred Hitchcock, the freshmen had a choice of four writing options from which to choose: 1) to research WWII war tactics and relate them to the short story 2) to research a bird species mentioned in the short story and summarize the animal through effective paraphrasing 3) to write about a fear which the student has 4) to write a sequel to either the short story or the film since many were not satisfied with the way the stories ended
