Assessment of English Learners
Approved Minnesota English Language Proficiency (ELP) Screener Assessments: the WIDA Screener and the Kindergarten MODEL. For students in kindergarten and 1st grade in the first semester, the Kindergarten MODEL is used to assess the student's current proficiency level in English. The WIDA Screener is used with potential English learners in grades 1-12 to make the final determination of English learner status. Additionally, to comply with federal accountability requirements, ACCESS for ELLs is administered annually.
ACCESS for ELLs stands for Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to State for English Language Learners. The ACCESS for ELLs test assesses students' English language proficiency in five areas:
- Social and Instructional Language
