Breckenridge Pride...Inspiring to Excel!!!

My name is Ivan Hirst.  I am the High School Principal and this is my 19th year in education.  During my career I have coached a variety of teams including: boys and girls basketball, volleyball, and track.  I am a strong supporter of music and drama programs as well.  I think so much can be learned while participating in extra-curricular activities.  I would like to see all of our students involved in some type of extra-curricular whether it is in athletics or another school organization.
I strongly believe in education.  One of my goals is for Breckenridge High School to provide many valuable learning opportunities for our students and give them the background and experience they need to be successful in the future.  This is evident by the growing opportunities we have implemented in the past few years.  Programs like Peer Tutors, Ambassadors, SADD, FFA and Robotics give a large number of our students’ opportunities to be creative, display leadership, and work together.
One of the main goals we have at Breckenridge High School is to prepare students for life after high school.  Our Ramp-Up to Readiness programs helps guide students in the process of thinking about life after high school whether that college, tech school or straight to a career.  The program has been implemented in grades 6 through 12 for the past few years and we are pleased with the opportunities the program has provided for our students
I am proud to work at Breckenridge High School.  The faculty and staff have worked hard to develop a student centered culture.   Over the past couple of years we have implemented Chromebooks into the student culture.  All of teachers are using technology to enhance student experience and engagement.  This year our faculty will be focusing on project based learning in their classrooms.  We feel that students learn more by hypothesizing, testing and doing than rote memorization.  We want our students to be problem solvers of the future.
My door is always open, please feel free to give a call or stop over to the High School office and share your thoughts or concerns.  I can be reached by phone at 643-2694 or via email at
