Vision Statement: Breckenridge Pride ... Inspiring to Excel!

BHS Band students are pictured above.
On Wednesday, March 18, the Breckenridge High School Band students participated in the MSHSL Large Group Contest for band in Morris, MN. They had the opportunity to listen to groups from Minnewaska, Campbell-Tintah, Wheaton, and others from the surrounding area. The students performed for adjudicators, who were primarily band directors at the collegiate level, or former long-time band directors. They performed "Dedicatory Overture" by Clifton Williams, a grade 4 piece, and "Awakening Hills" by Richard Saucedo, which was grade 3. Following their performance for the adjudicators and an audience of peers and other band directors, they worked with clinician and adjudicator Monte Grise from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. They received 2 Superior Ratings and 1 Excellent Rating, which are the top two rating categories for this event. Their scores were based on several musical performance components such as tone quality, pitch, rhythm, and balance.

On Wednesday, April 8, these students will perform at the MSHSL Solo and Ensemble Contest in Morris, MN. At this event, they will play in small groups or as soloists for an adjudicator for comments and a rating, based on the same categories listed above.

Future events for the music department include a high school band and choir concert on Monday, April 20, and a tour to Nashville, Tennessee the end of April.
